Natural Lifestyle Homes Wins
National HIA GreenSmart Awards
Natural Lifestyle Homes has built a number
of houses in Brisbane with sustainable
features that save water, energy, and the
environment. Your ongoing costs are lower
because saving water and energy means you'll
save on your utility bills.
Natural Lifestyle Homes recently won two
awards for Sustainable Home Brisbane, at the
HIA GreenSmart Awards in
Sydney.
HIA GreenSmart Building of the Year - this
award was presented to the residential
building that best incorporated GreenSmart
through cost-effective environmental
features and practices, in its construction
and operation. The category was open to
single and attached houses, new buildings
and renovations, which qualified by
addressing the following criteria:
-
achievements in design and construction innovation;
-
quality of work completed;
-
management of energy, waste, and water;
-
site management;
-
selection of materials;
-
indoor air quality;
-
cost-effectiveness;
-
market replicability; and
-
overall environmental performance.
HIA GreenSmart Water Efficiency Housing
Award - this award recognised innovative and
replicable approaches to integrated water
management in a housing project. Assessment
was based on the project's reduction in
overall water consumption and specifically
mains (potable) water consumption, as well
as demonstrated protection of the natural
water environment.
Judging criteria for this category included
evidence of a water management plan or
strategy that demonstrated a considered
approach to water protection and
conservation and measures to reduce
consumption of potable water. Installation
of innovative techniques or technologies for
water conservation and their integration
into regular use also were assessed.
Part of the Queensland Sustainable Homes
program, the house will provide an
opportunity for industry, government,
community groups, and the public to learn
about sustainable housing design. Australian
Green Development Forum is
coordinating the Brisbane project and
Australian Green Development Forum
members play a vital role in the project.
